We wear…..

Wearing a uniform is comfy and practical. It means no one feels uncomfortable or left out, and it helps everyone feel part of the group. Our uniform consists of a sweatshirt or shirt that you can sew badges on and a coloured scarf or ‘necker’ to represent your local group. There are lots of other optional accessories you can wear, such as hats, hoodies, trousers or shorts.

Scouts uniform

A uniform can be bought online from The Scout Shop or the Glasgow Scout Shop. If you’re not sure where to start, leaders can give you more information about what to buy. They may even know if someone is selling a uniform second-hand.

Costs

Each group charges a fee (called subscriptions or subs) to cover the costs of the annual membership fee, a group’s running costs and their regular meetings, which cover venue hire, admin, insurances and materials for activities. Although many of these costs are annual in nature, to make it more affordable for parents, many groups split these costs into monthly, termly or quarterly payments. There are sometimes extra charges for special activities, camps and events. We try to keep our subs as low as possible so that anyone can come to Scouts.

Hardship

There are grants available to help you buy a uniform, and if you also need help paying subs, please speak to your  Group Lead Volunteer or 14-24 team leader

For event attendance and other non-recurring items, Maidstone East have access to hardship funding that can be drawn upon to enable young people and adult volunteers to participate in Scouting. We believe that financial issues should not be a barrier to a young person’s scouting. We also believe all volunteers are entitled to the same opportunities, so please contact the District Chairman to discuss the removal of financial barriers to your scouting. All of this is in the strictest confidence, and your identity will remain known only to the District Chairman and District Lead Volunteer (this is only so that money can be enacted, which requires duality of authorisation under the rules of the Scout Association)
